I’ve had this post in the notes on my phone for a while now, adding things to it as soon as I experience something new that makes me happy that I’d like to add in the post. I keep all my blog post ideas in the notes on my phone, so it’s an easy way to just delete them once they’ve been written. I also categorize them into months but that’s for another post altogether (categorizing… that’s one thing that clearly makes me happy!) Then I saw in March, one of my favourite bloggers Hello Bexa actually did a post more or less the same. Great minds think alike, I say. She’s cool with me doing a similar type of post so here we are, my usually miserable self about to share 50 little things that make me happy!
So it would appear that on my blog this month, the general theme is “happiness” Earlier in the month I reviewed the book How To Be Happy by Eva Woods (which, spoiler alert, was incredible) and next week I have a “50 things that make me happy” post going live. Gosh, that’s an awful lot of positivity and happiness for one month isn’t it? Well, apparently not because today I’m here to talk about The Happy Brain by Dean Burnett. And then that’s enough happy-related content for the month, I think. I wouldn’t want to over do it now, would I?
Self care is something I’ve really tried to embrace and focus on more in 2017. I truly believe that we need to look after ourselves and treat ourselves with the same level of love, care and respect as you would your partner, parents, pet, house plant – whoever. Of course that’s easier said than done and I’m certainly not the only one who repeatedly punishes themselves when they feel shit or have had a bad day by not eating, sleeping too much, not washing or speaking to anyone. These behaviours are damaging – there’s no two ways about it and we need to try harder to embrace positive actions when we feel bad, rather than negative ones.
2016 has not got off to the happiest of starts. There’s been some sad news, some down days and some uncertainty but despite all of that, it’s always good to try and look for the good things in life – no matter how big or small they might be.
A few weeks ago, I hosted a Twitter chat with the topic being, “Life Before, During and After Blogging”. One of my questions for the people taking part was, “How has your life changed since you started blogging? What has blogging brought to your life that it didn’t have before?” I literally couldn’t answer my own question because a 140 character limit wouldn’t have been nowhere near enough for me to accurately describe what blogging has brought to my life.
