I’m going to start this post with a bit of self-praise, which is something I never, ever do. But the thing I like the most about myself is how organised I am, my organisational skills and my ability to stick to deadlines, work ahead of schedule and generally just never get in a flap about getting things done because chances are, I’ve already done it! I’ve always been an organised person to some degree; my homework was never late, I always used my planner well to keep track of homework deadlines and even in my bedroom as a child, everything had it’s rightful place. I was never a messy kid and I grew up to have a very Type A personality. I basically grew up and turned into Monica Geller. But back to the point, all of these skills and traits have served me really well in my blogging career, especially since I started taking blogging more seriously.
Here’s a fact about me: I am obsessed with lists. I thrive off of organisation and lists are the main thing that keep my life in order. Or in as much order as the illusion of control can possibly give you. At this present moment I have lists on my phone of the following things; Blogging to-do’s, work to-do’s, things in the post, things I need to buy, payments I’m waiting to receive, Christmas presents I want to buy for people and more. I. Bloody. Love. Lists. But not only can they be extremely beneficial for “sorting shit out“, they can also be fun and therapeutic and a good way to be creative and unwind. They don’t all have to be boring old, “do taxes, do a good shop and put the bins out”. So I’ve concocted a list of lists (that is the most Jenny thing I could have possibly done) for you to try and get stuck in to if… like me… you’re obsessed with lists.
It’s inevitable that at some point or another, all of us are going to stop what we’re doing and think, “huh?”. Wonder where our career is going, whether our dreams are possible or if we’re getting real deep, what the meaning of it all is. I certainly have found myself in that situation more than once; most notably, right before I started blogging. I’ve never once had a more intense feeling of, “what’s the point” than then but fortunately I was pulled out of a dark, lost place by books and blogging which eventually got me to where I am today with my own business and a successful blog. Yay! However, I’m not naïve to the fact that I will probably get those feelings again. In the meantime though, I wanna share some of my own tips on what to do when you’re feeling a little lost in life.
I love a to-do list. I love to-do lists more than life itself. And apart from when I’m on holiday, I don’t think I’ve got through a single day in the last 2 years without working from a to-do list. I am a super organised person and I thrive off of it; the thought of waking up and just going about your day terrifies me. What if I forget something? What if I’m not getting my priorities straight? I am your straight up, stereotypical Type A personality and whilst that’s great and all and I get a shit load done on a daily basis it definitely has it’s downsides. To-do lists are amazing but recently, I’ve been noticing downsides.
If you know me but at all, you will know that I am very, very organised. I rarely toot my own horn (and no that’s not a euphemism for m a s t u r b a t i o n) but I pride myself on my organisational skills and looking like I have my life in order when I really, really, really don’t (cries). But seriously though, it’s one of the very few things I can honestly say, hands down that I am really fucking good at. Maybe it’s inate, my mum works in an office and quite frankly, the entire company would crumble without her. Or maybe it’s learnt. But whatever it is, it does come in super handy. So here are some of my tips and whatnot which I use to stay organised.
If you know me at all, you will know I am incredibly organised. I love cleaning, tidying and getting stuff in order. It calms me down, makes me feel productive and almost-zen and I always feel so much better afterwards. I regularly take to Twitter to tell the loyal Twit folk when I’m tidying and how much I love it and I also regularly end up in conversations with people who can’t stand cleaning and sorting out and wouldn’t know where to start. Well… fret no more (not that you were anyway but still) because I thought I’d share my tips for preparing for a bedroom clear-out.
We can’t help the way our days go sometimes… They occasionally end up epically shite and it’s completely out of our control. But it’s still always important to start the day right because ya never know what might happen! I’ve put a lot more emphasis into starting my day right this year so I wanted to share some of the things I’ve started to do to have a more positive morning! Note: waking up at the crack of dawn isn’t one of them.
