Although it’s February (I know right, don’t get me started), it’s never too late to establish some new healthy lifestyle changes to improve your physical, mental well-being, all while supporting your immune health. In fact, some people find the start of a New Year the worst time to start adopting new habits! But considering it takes 3-4 weeks to make a new habit automatic, there’s no better time than right now.
At the tail end of last year, I really knuckled down with my health. I hired an online coach who has helped me stay motivated, given me tailored workouts and helped me work out what’s important to me when it comes to my health and well-being. For me, it’s less stress and more movement.
But whatever new healthy lifestyle habits you want to form in 2022 (and beyond, hopefully!) you don’t have to hire a coach to be able to achieve them. All you really need is the information, the motivation and to remind yourself of your “why” every day until your new habit becomes automatic.
In today’s new blog post, we’re going to be looking at some easy lifestyle changes to make this year which will contribute towards a healthier mind and body in the years to come. It’s important to note that these changes are EASY, as it’s said in the title. Because nobody has time for 3 hours of Yoga and meditation in the morning, followed with a 5km walk and harvesting your own breakfast.
So no, we’re not at the start of the year anymore but that doesn’t matter. Here are some easy lifestyle changes to add to your New Years goals and your wellness routines going forward:
1. Introducing yeast beta glucans into your diet
First and foremost, one of the most amazing and simple things you can add to your diet and everyday life to help support your immune health (which lets face it, is something we ALL want after these last few years!) is by introducing yeast beta glucans into your diet and lifestyle.
What are yeast beta glucans?
Yeast beta glucans are an immune supporting tool for all types of people. Certain types of beta glucans have been shown to be suitable for families, children, athletes and are effective for those struggling with stress (beta glucan refers to a chemical structure. These are glucose units which are structured together in a particular format).
Yeast beta glucans are great for supporting your immune system and the way they do this is that it primes and interacts with your immune system by being taken up by immune cells in your gut when it’s consumed then travels around your body and primes the immune cells.
The immune cells are primed to react more effectively which means you’ll have more days of feeling well! Something I don’t think anyone would say no to!
Introducing Wellmune®
Wellmune® is the best in class yeast beta glucan ingredient. You can find a wide range of food, drinks and supplements which are fortified with Wellmune to suit the needs of almost anyone. For example:
- Athletes who might prefer to take yeast beta glucans in a shake before a workout
- Children who might not like tablets but are keen on gummies
- Busy mum’s who might need an energy bar fortified with Wellmune to eat on the go
Wellmune has made it almost TOO easy to fit yeast beta glucan products into your daily routines, which take up no extra time or energy. Although you have natural yeast in things like bread and beer, it’s not the same as taking yeast beta glucans which deliver the signal to your body to allow it to be primed and to support your immune system more effectively. Which is where Wellmune fills the gap.
As someone who’s self employed, I have to keep on top of my own health and well-being effectively so I can work the most effectively. However, I also work from home. So although it’s easy for me to add things into my lifestyle and diet to keep on top of my immune system and health, it’s also always VERY tempting to pop to the fridge every 10 minutes for a snack!
Products with yeast beta glucans make it easy to get the support I am looking for and they fit perfectly into my diet. A simple supplement in the morning with a glass of water and a cup of tea gets my Wellmune yeast beta glucans in quickly and efficiently to start my day the right way.
Then in the middle of the day, either late morning or late afternoon when that energy slump often hits and you need a quick boost, then one of these delicious bars come in super handy. I can eat them on the go or at my desk, get a quick energy boost and curb the hunger pains until lunch time.
Here are some important questions you might have about Wellmune and yeast beta glucans:
What makes Wellmune® the best on the market?
Wellmune is unmatched in their significant amount of research that backs the science of how the product works. They are backed by a wide range of clinical trials too. They’ve conducted studies across a wide range of populations; children, athletes, people under stress and elderly people and the studies have shown it’s safe for everyone – even down to children of 3 years old.
Wellmune works within the bounds of normal metabolism; they’re not artificially simulating metabolism or the immune system.
Can you take multiple products with yeast beta glucans?
Wellmune is safe in a wide range of products, so consuming it in different ways throughout the day is fine. For example, you might want to take a supplement in the morning when you wake up but then eat an energy bar in the afternoon for a little wake up. It’s perfectly safe for both of these products to have Wellmune in them.
Is Wellmune safe to take long term?
It’s absolutely okay to take as an ongoing thing and research shows benefits from daily use.
How long does it take to feel the benefits?
In studies conducted by Wellmune, after 10-14 days, they were measuring the participants for biomarkers. Already after 14 days, there was a change in the biomarkers but you’ll actively start to feel benefits of consumption after 30 days.
Are there any side effects?
There are no side effects.
Why is gut health so important to immunity?
The gut has about 70% of your immune system, so it’s the environment where your immune cells are. If your gut isn’t healthy, it’s going to have negative effects on your immune system. Your gut and immune system are tightly entwined in your physiology and biology – so it makes sense that your gut health has such a big impact on your immune system! And since Wellmune is taken orally through the gut, it’s important to understand this relationship between the immune system and gut health.
More easy lifestyle changes to make this year which support our immune system and general health:
2. Get enough fibre in your diet
Continuing on with the theme of gut health, this is an excellent lifestyle change to make as much as you can to improve your gut health and support your immune system even further. An adult needs around 30g of fibre in their diet every day but most are only managing around 18g.
Fibre can lower your risk of heart disease, strokes and type 2 diabetes, as well as improving digestion so you’ll definitely feel the benefits of upping this intake! Fruits and vegetables are the best sources of fibre, so find recipes, foods and ingredients you like and go from there.
3. Get plenty of rest (not just sleep!)
I think more often than not, people associate rest with sleep. But that’s far from the case. Sleep is obviously incredibly important (more on that in the next point) but when we’re talking about rest, we can also mean just sitting down and having a break! We’re on the go during so much of the day, we can rarely find the time to just rest.
Rest can include things like:
- Turning your computer off at 5pm and not responding to emails
- Taking a long bath with no interruptions
- Having an afternoon nap when you feel like you need one
- Sitting down and reading a book instead of pushing through another chore
4. And also get good quality sleep
And obviously sleep is the biggest form of rest our body can get and it’s SO important to prioritize sleep in your life. This will help you feel better mentally and physically and it’ll also help your immune system function even better. If you’re struggling with your sleep, you might consider:
- Establishing a night-time routine to help you wind down
- Journaling before bed to help empty your mind
- Blue light glasses if you work on a computer during the day
- Decorating your bedroom so it’s a more calming environment for you
5. Eliminate stress as much as you can
Obviously easier said than done but for the sake of your health and the functionality of your immune system, eliminating (or reducing) stress is a top contender for effective lifestyle changes to make this year. None of us are immune to stress and regardless of how much we try and avoid it, it’s going to crop up. But finding coping mechanisms and understanding stress in your life and body can be incredibly beneficial!
6. Drink enough water
Another very obvious point here but sadly one that so many people don’t do. It’s so easy as well and it can make a huge difference to how you feel day to day! Set yourself some small goals if you struggle drinking water. You might want to start your day with a glass of water in the morning for rehydration after sleep and to get that first glass in as soon as you wake up. Or buy a bottle which allows you to infuse fruit into your water.
7. Increase those steps
Exercise and being active definitely positively impacts your immune system but it’s hard to give suggestions about exercise when everyone has such different needs and requirements when it comes to physical activity. One gentle but super effective thing we can do though is up our steps. Walking has huge benefits on mental health and physical health.
I hope these tips help you if you’re thinking about how you can support your immune system this year and what healthy lifestyle changes to make! There’s something here for everyone and all of these points are super easy that it won’t be a struggle fitting them into your daily life! From products with Wellmune to better sleep to drinking more water, these will help you feel your best self in no time.
