Most blogs these days have a sidebar and it’s usually one of the first things you notice when you discover a new blog. What’s in that sidebar however can be incredibly important to growing your blog, your audience and encouraging people to spend more time on your blog rather than clicking off and going elsewhere. Remember, we’re not in the days of Piczo anymore so whilst flashing images, neon graphics and moving GIF’s might grab someones attention, it’ll soon give them a headache. Sidebars need to be (relatively) clean, easy to understand but most importantly, include the right information to benefit your fabulous blog! So let’s get into it, shall we? Here are some super handy things you can include in your blogs sidebar.
Each and every month when I check my stats on my WordPress app, sitting at the top of my “most views” posts during that month are always blogging-related posts. These tend to be advice style posts and occasionally blogging related discussions but you can bet your bottom dollar that posts about blogging are almost always my most viewed posts. I’m most certainly no “blogging guru” (literally if you call yourself a blogging guru, go home) but I’ve been blogging for over 5 years now, learnt a hella lot along the way and I love to share what I’ve learnt with my readers. From anything from growing a following, how to find sponsored opportunities and tips on being self-employed – if I have some experience in it and/or have some strategies that I’ve found have worked for me, you can probably expect a blog post about it.
Since my little discussion about why I like blogging for bloggers, I’ve been inspired to write more blogging-related blog posts lately. I think there will always be a blogging related topic that someone needs or wants to find out more about and blogging is such a multi-layered hobby or career that even the smallest and seemingly most obvious pieces of advice can go a long, long way. I’ve certainly learnt that over the years I’ve been blogging; making the smallest change or doing what I think is something insignificant can make a impact on my blog. Today’s post is a little bit like that, a bit of a “well duhhhhhh” but sometimes it’s not “duh” at all. Sometimes we do genuinely forget to do the simplest things when it comes to blogging. I mean, we’ve got a hell of a lot to think about, can you blame us?
I’ve done plenty of ‘blog post ideas’ posts before; Winter & Christmas, Autumn and Spring & Summer and these posts always tend to go down really well. We all struggle with blogging motivation and inspiration and sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we cannot come up with an idea for a blog post for the life of us. I’ve been there, you’ve been there, we’ve all been there. So I don’t think there’s any shame in asking, looking or offering help for people stuck in those inspiration-ruts. Now I’ve got the seasons out the way, I thought I’d do more niché style blog post ideas lists, starting with my favourite niché of all… books! Here are 25 book themed blog post ideas that you’re free to use!
January has been one of my best months for page views (so far… I’m writing this on the 10th and I’m already more or less half way to what I received in all of December, so going by those statistics, I’m going to conclude that January will be my best month for page views, if I keep up what I’m doing. I’ll check back on the 31st and see if I was right – hopefully I am! If not, well don’t I look like a tit) – why is it my best month for page views? Well, firstly, I think my content is just better in general. So that always helps but also, I’m working really bloody hard to ensure that is the case. I’m going above and beyond what I usually do with my blog, experimenting with new techniques etc in order to find out if and what gains me more views.
When I started blogging I never dreamed that one day, I’d actually get sent a product – for free – in order to write about it. I never thought I’d ever get paid to write a blog post – I mean, what? That only happens to Zoella, right? I didn’t understand how blogging can be a serious business, that there’s money to be made from it and that brands actually genuinely trust bloggers, want to work with them and promote their products through this platform. I’ve been lucky that now in my almost 5 years of blogging, I’ve had the chance to review some amazing products, work with incredible brands and write sponsored posts which Jesus Christ… I got money for doing. Actual money. Not Monopoly money.
Don’t get me wrong, I go through huge blogging inspiration slumps sometimes where I literally wouldn’t be able to think of an idea for a post if my actual life depended on it. I think we all go through these phases, for a bunch of reasons and it’s totes normal and doesn’t make you a bad blogger for it. But right now, I’m on a bit of a roll with blogging inspiration and I have ideas coming out my ear-holes. So now a new year has rolled around (again?!) and I know a ton of people will be wanting to up their blogging game, here’s some tips and advice to help you come up with blog post ideas!
