AD – This post contains gifted products but all thoughts are my own

The older I get, the more I appreciate the morning. I’ve always been a morning person. I’m more productive in the morning and I’m more motivated in the morning. And I really value my time, space and peace in the morning before the busy rush of the day begins. My boyfriend however, can lay in bed until one in the afternoon. I’m not sure how but each to their own!

As I work from home, I really need to have some sort of structure to my day as it’s so easy for it all to blend together. The working. Watching Netflix. Having lunch. The lines are quite blurred. But there’s one thing that’s certain… for me at least. It’s that I’m ALWAYS more productive if I do my proper morning routine.

What does my morning routine look like?

I usually wake up around 7, sometimes earlier, sometimes a little later. And my morning always starts with taking my vitamins and drinking some water. Then, it’s breakfast time. One of my favorite times of the day and definitely my favourite meal of the day! I cannot function without breakfast so first on the agenda is food and of course… a cuppa!

I’ve never personally been a coffee drinker in the morning and if I was, it would have to be a decaf because I’m currently cutting out caffeine due to heart palpitations, ugh. But obviously a lot of people opt for coffee in the morning. There are so many models of coffee machines, check out this post on best keurig coffee maker reviews to help you make the perfect choice!

Morning essentials with Viking

Like I said, my morning starts with breakfast. I can’t function properly until I’ve eaten breakfast and it’s my favourite meal of the day as there’s SO MUCH variety. In fact, I can eat “breakfast food” for every meal, if I want to! However I do go through periods where I’ll have the same thing every day for quite a while. At the moment it’s scrambled eggs.

Viking kindly sent me the products pictured above from their cleaning and catering range to feature in this post and for me, these are mine and my families morning essentials. Toaster? Check. Kettle? CHECK. Tea and coffe? Check, check. There really is nothing nicer than that first cup of tea in the morning.

The toaster and kettle are essentially a set, as they have the same design. Which I really like because I think it keeps things a little neater in the kitchen. Especially our kitchen, which is over-run with appliances! I’m really happy with both of these and will of course be getting a LOT of use of them!

I also opted for the Cranberry and Raspberry Twinnings Tea, PG Tips English Breakfast Tea and Nescafe Coffee. The coffee for my Mum – who drinks a lot of it. I don’t as I have some weird intolerance sadly! The English Breakfast Tea for everyone because, well, we’re English. And the fruity teas for me. I’ve always tried to get into fruity tea and on the occasion I have really enjoyed one. This flavour looked lovely so I’m glad I gave these a try.

Continuing on with my morning routine…

After breakfast, I’ll usually do a bit of work on my phone. Meditate and do my 15 minute mindset routine and once enough time has passed that I can safely work out without bringing up my food, it’s time for exercise. I’m currently using Holly Dolke on YouTube and of course Yoga With Adriene.

After that, I’ll shower and get ready and properly start my day. This simple morning routine helps me to avoid that dreaded afternoon energy slump and I really do feel all over the place and can’t get into a rhythm for the rest of the day if I don’t have a productive morning!

Tips for those who want to establish a morning routine:

  • Have something to wake up for. I don’t mean work or letting the cat out (although those are really important things to wake up for!), I mean something that YOU can’t wait for. Perhaps that’s some Yoga or 15 uninterrupted minutes to read before the kids get up. Whatever it is, focus on that.
  • Get up when your alarm goes off and try to avoid hitting snooze! The later you get up, the less time to really have to enjoy your morning routine. Perhaps try leaving your phone across the room so you’re forced to get out of bed to turn your alarm off, even when you don’t want to!
  • Persevere! At the start, you’re definitely going to want to skip that morning routine and go back to bed. But don’t. It will get easier every day.
  • Find something that works for you. My routine might seem like a nightmare to some – but that’s okay because it works for me and you have the luxury to find what works for you, too. Don’t be afraid to chop and change your morning routine to fit in with your needs.

I know this was a very brief insight into my morning routine but I hope it gave you some ideas for how to establish your own, if you don’t have one already! I want to hear from you! Are you a morning person? What’s your favourite breakfast?

  1. A brisk walk outside is the best way to wake your body up and recharge. As an added bonus, exercising in fresh air and sunshine boosts mood-lifting endorphins, the immune system and the metabolism.

  2. I’m so incredible not a morning person. But coffee helps. Strong, hot coffee. Black as a moonless night lol!!

  3. I’ve thought for ages I don’t like mornings, but it turns out that I was just staying up WAY too late. Now I like getting an early night (well, early for me) and then being productive in the mornings. It makes you feel like you’ve really achieved something!

  4. This sounds like a great routine! I really struggle with the getting out of bed bit, but once I’m up I enjoy having a routine like this. Weirdly I’m actually way better at morning routines if I wake up with a migraine, like this morning (I think because I want to get up ASAP to get meds), and despite the pain I tend to really enjoy those mornings as I avoid screens and do things for my own self care. Just need to do it on normal mornings, too!

  5. I’m definitely a night person. I’m not useless on a morning, but I’m definitely not as focused and productive as I am on an afternoon/ evening. I totally agree about being self employed and establishing routines though. I sometimes draft my recipes on a weekend if I cook on a Friday or Saturday (so I don’t forget what I’ve done) and the days can definitely blend unless I stick to a clear routine on a weekday x

  6. I loved reading about your routine. I’ve been getting up earlier to exercise and it definitely sets me up for the day so I can see why you do it too.

  7. Loved this! I’m normally a huge morning person but lockdown has taken quite a bit of that motivation, so I find that having a morning routine is super helpful for me.

  8. I really like your morning routine. I think that having a few minutes of mindset work before starting the day is essential.

  9. I’m definitely more of a morning person, I don’t tend to snooze my alarm when it goes off, I just know if I did I wouldn’t get up. The routine has gone a bit funny for me since lockdown as I’m so used to going into an office for the whole day but instead my living room has turned into my new office! I could also eat breakfast food for breakfast, lunch and dinner haha.

  10. I’ve never been a morning person but I’ve been waking up early for the past year or so and it’s completely transformed my life. PS Twinings Cranberry and Raspberry has been one of my faves since I was around 16!

  11. I always say I’m a morning person but I’ve definitely noticed recently that I’m finding mornings more of a struggle – maybe it’s the whole situation right now. That being said, I seem to just be finding everything a struggle, so not sure I can blame it on mornings, aha. I love the idea of knowing what you’re waking up for, something personal – thanks!

  12. I never thought I’d be a morning lover but this year has changed all that.

I love getting up early and working out, prepping for the day and just having a bit of much needed alone time.

I love the cranberry tea, it’s my favourite!

  13. I have never been a morning person, but a night owl. Annnnd then I had kids, and there is no way not to be a morning person with them(I know a double negative 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️) Now I have to have a moring routine because of them. Ours too starts with brekfast.

  14. I will admit sometimes I struggle in the morning, but once I’m awake and had a cup of tea, I’m perfect then for the rest of the day, my job involves different shifts but it’s not all bad 😁

  15. I’m also a morning person but I NEED a cup of coffee to kickstart my day (sometimes maybe even too 🤫).. having a routine is so essential, although I’ve definitely let mine slip over the last couple of months so I need to work on getting back into it again. X

  16. My morning routine is to make up my bed. If I didn’t make up my bed, I feel like the day hasn’t started yet and it leads me to procrastinate.

Btw, cute mug you have there.

  17. I tend to wake up around 6am and lie in bed just thinking for a while. Then up to feed the cats, make some tea, and log into emails at around 7.30am (I know, it’s sad, but it’s the only chance I get with no interruptions!). We used to do PE with Joe but that’s fallen by the way now so I guess I need to find another morning activity for all of us 🙂 Love that mug, Jenny, that’s so me! Lisa xxx

  18. Since lockdown began, I’ve kind of settled into a morning routine which I’m really enjoying. Sadly it’ll all go out the window when we go back to work and school so I’m enjoying it while it lasts! At the moment I get to enjoy my first coffee of the day in peace (well with the dog lol), but when we go back to ‘normal’, I have to get up at 5:30 so that won’t be happening! xx

  19. Thanks for the tips for morning routine,I really need to follow this because I’m all over the place 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

  20. Great tips for establishing a morning routine here. I wake up, check my phone and then get a cup of tea. This isn’t my ideal morning routine and something ill be working on changing over the next couple of weeks.

  21. I really really need to get a morning routine going, now more than ever, as all of us as a family are getting up later and later. If nothing else it’ll give me some quiet time to get stuff done. I have never been a morning person though, it’s oh so easy just to stay in bed until the kids are up.

  22. I definitely agree there’s nothing better than that first cup of tea in the morning! I also really love those Twinings cranberry and raspberry tea bags. I always used to really struggle with eating breakfast in the morning but since being on my medication I’ve had to force myself to eat something first and it’s gradually getting easier. These are great tips too for working on your morning routine – I’m currently fighting a losing battle with the snooze button! x

  23. I think having a routine can be so important to getting a jump start on the day – though I do like to mix it up every now and again

  24. I’m currently having a battle with my alarm clock because I don’t have the usual work or uni routine to get up for, but I will definitely try to plan for having something in the morning to look forward to! This is such a lovely post!

  25. I love this! Viking has such wonderful products for all walks of life. I loved working with them on my office!
Having a lovely morning routine always sets me up for the day.

  26. I’ve never been a morning person since the day I was born! My mum always tells me about how she literally could not drag me out of bed as I’d fall asleep every 3 seconds when she was trying to get me up for school. I’m quite the same now, still can’t wake up before 9am without feeling awful. I’m very much a night person.

However, since working, I’ve been forced up early most days and I am starting to get into the habit of having breakfast which is great! I used to skip it all the time.

  27. I’m not a morning person no matter how much I try, I barely eat breakfast and I hardly get motivated to do anything. This is something I’m working on.

  28. I love Yoga with Adriene! However, I’m sorry to admit I’ve never been a morning person. I do have a routine of enjoying a couple cups of hot tea with cream to start my day. I try to hold off eating until lunch, as I’m a fan of intermittent fasting.

  29. I am definitely a morning person! It just really sets me up for the day if I am productive or work out etc! Also I cannot start the day without a cup of tea ☺️ Xxx
