Tips for people who want to go self-employed

Having your own business, being your own boss and going self-employed can be a super exciting prospect. Now, more than ever, individuals are taking the leap into self-employment and utilizing the tools we have available in order to create and maintain successful businesses. There seems to be a wave of bloggers, creatives, artists, YouTuber’s and online business owners all making money from their own creations and that’s absolutely brilliant, being self-employed myself, it’s always encouraging to see people succeed in such a difficult industry because I know how hard it can be sometimes. Here are some of my own tips for people who are thinking about or in the early stages of self-employment, which I wish someone had told me right at the beginning too!

Small ways to expand your horizons

Almost every day, we’re faced with photos, tweets, Facebook ‘check-in’s’ of people jetting off across the other side of the world to go travelling. People who have spent the day in a waterfall, exploring another culture, sky-diving, snorkeling – you name it and you’ve probably seen someone you know on social media doing it. Whether you follow any travel bloggers or not, there’s always posts cropping up about why you should travel, how travel makes you a better person, how to find yourself by travelling and so on. I’m not making fun of people who travel; I think if it’s what you want to do and you have the means to do it then that’s amazing and you should totally go for it. But I am saying that not all of us can, should or want to travel. And that’s okay too.

50 little things that make me happy

I’ve had this post in the notes on my phone for a while now, adding things to it as soon as I experience something new that makes me happy that I’d like to add in the post. I keep all my blog post ideas in the notes on my phone, so it’s an easy way to just delete them once they’ve been written. I also categorize them into months but that’s for another post altogether (categorizing… that’s one thing that clearly makes me happy!) Then I saw in March, one of my favourite bloggers Hello Bexa actually did a post more or less the same. Great minds think alike, I say. She’s cool with me doing a similar type of post so here we are, my usually miserable self about to share 50 little things that make me happy!

Random questions generator (#2)

A couple of years ago, I did a post called the “random questions generator Q&A” which was, well, what it says on the tin really. I found a random questions generator online, generated 10 random questions (blimey, imagine that!) and answered them in a Q&A! So I thought this would be a fun post to do again because you don’t know what questions you’re going to get and you’re likely going to be answering something a little different from the good old, “why did you start blogging?”. So, I generated 10 questions and I’m answering every question that came up and not skipping any – cos that’s cheating. Here’s what I got!

Why am I in such a rush?

You would have heard me talk about it time and time again, how I’m addicted to productivity. I have this incessant need to be doing something productive 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I work for myself and I work from home, so I know that has certainly impacted this shift in me because if I don’t work and work hard… I don’t get money. I can’t afford to slack. I can’t afford to have down days. But I also can’t afford to burn myself out by pushing and pushing and pushing myself. I’m well aware that we all need down-time and a period in our day to relax. I know that. So why can’t I implement that for myself?

Things to remember when you start a blog

Blogging is an amazing hobby or job to have. Wherever you fall on that spectrum, blogging is a valued and respected industry (by most) and it has incredible perks and benefits; mentally, creatively and sometimes financially. It’s no wonder that there’s more bloggers now than ever before! Personally, I think that’s a great thing and I’m all for the mindset that the blogging industry can always use a new and fresh voice. I’d also always encourage someone to start a blog if they’re interested in doing so – the blogging industry is over-saturated? Pffft, shut up. How un-supportive can you be?

25 Spring & Summer blog post ideas

It might feel like 2018 has only just started but we’re going to be well into Spring before we know it! Although my favourite season is Winter (I luuuuurve the cold), I do love Spring and all the little wonders that come with it. Hot Cross Buns for breakfast, baby animals, the smell in the air as the flowers start to bloom and of course that feeling of productivity and wanting to conquer the world that comes with a new season (tell me I’m not the only one who gets that?) I’ve done two season-themed blog post ideas lists before (Autumn & Winter/Christmas) which both went down well so I thought I’d complete the set and share some Spring and Summer related blog post ideas for you to use this year!

Bloggers I’ve been loving recently

Is there ever enough support for other bloggers you love? No, I don’t think so. However I know for a fact that I could do better with telling the bloggers I love to read how much I like their content. Being told you’re someones favourite blogger is one of the nicest things to hear and makes all the hard work you put in totally worth it. A nice comment about your post, your blog, your photography – anything – can completely brighten your day so I firmly believe that we all could (including me!) do more of that! So to make up for my lack of it, I’m doing a little post to show you which bloggers I’ve been loving recently!

A-Z of me

I’ve seen this A-Z of me post scattered around the blogosphere quite a lot recently; and I’m not surprised. It’s a lovely, simple post to let people know a little more about you. I pinched the idea off of Fraser’s Fun House (who’s blog is fantastic, hint hint mummy and lifestyle bloggers, go and check it out!) and thought it would be a good idea to do as my follower count has grown substantially since the last time I did any sort of “get to know me” or “facts about me” type post which have been lost in the ether by now. So, let’s get going. A-Z of me and please excuse any of these which are ridiculous because chances are I couldn’t think of anything beginning with that letter.

Cheap, free or easy ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day

To some of us, associating Valentine’s Day with lavish gifts, romantic trips away or expensive meals just isn’t realistic or doable. Unfortunately, we’re not all in a position to be splashing that sort of money out on one day. If you are, then that’s great and I hope you find an amazing way to celebrate the day but for everyone else, I’ve compiled a list of either cheap or free and generally easy and low-key ways you can celebrate Valentine’s Day this year if you’re a bit stuck for ideas. I’m not a huge lover of Valentine’s Day (maybe if I was being whisked off to Monaco, I would be!) but it’s always nice to do something nice, right?
