AD – This is an advertorial but all thoughts are my own

You’ll know by now that I’m big on person growth, life coaching and all that good stuff to help try and better yourself as a person and work hard on those things that you know deep down are holding you back from your true potential. I’ve had a number of life coaching courses and sessions over the last few years and they’ve all brought immense value into my life.

I’m always interested in new ways to help me move forward and progress as a person; in both my personal and professional life. I’ve also found that a lot of elements tend to overlap. If you work on yourself personally, then your professional life tends to improve as well. I’ve been lucky enough to have another amazing session with Andrea Hunt recently, this time focusing more on limiting beliefs.

Who is Andrea Hunt?

Andrea Hunt is a certified transformational life coach and level 2 EFT practitioner. She has a diverse history, having work experience in International Communications and having spent a number of years in China. She now lives in Munich, where she works as a motivational life coach and can help you reach your goals and gain more self awareness through limiting belief sessions, EFT and more.

If you’re completely new to these sort of things and don’t know where to start, then Andrea has you covered there too. She also offers a 30 minute free life coaching discovery call, which can allow you to have a chat and see if you’ll be able to work together to effectively break through those barriers which are holding you back.

What are limiting beliefs?

This latest session I had with Andrea was all about limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs which I’ve had for many years and arise in many different ways in my life. I’ve worked with a few life coaches like I said and limiting beliefs are ALWAYS a huge aspect of their programs and teachings. They are one of the BIGGEST challenges that can hold you back!

So what are limiting beliefs? They are thoughts or opinions that you have (either about yourself or others) that YOU believe to be the truth. Limiting beliefs tend to have a negative impact on your life, stop you moving forward or growing on a personal or professional level. Common limiting beliefs we have are:

  • I’m not good / pretty / smart enough
  • I’ll never achieve my goals or get to where I want to be
  • People don’t care about me
  • I’ll never have enough money to do the things I want to do

Limiting beliefs often stem from far more complicated situations than we think. Sometimes, when we start to delve into limiting beliefs, we can’t even put our finger on WHY we feel that way or where it come from. After some digging, it usually always comes to the surface and why you have that limiting belief starts to make such more sense. Then it’s time to try and break through them.

My experience with the limiting belief and SRT session

The last time I worked with Andrea it was for an EFT session and I spoke about how EFT can be used to reduce stress and anxiety. I won’t be going into EFT here so if you’re interested in learning more, I’d suggest reading that post to see how I got on and for more information on what EFT is and how it can help stress and anxiety.

This time we focused on limiting beliefs. I haven’t done any limiting belief work for some time, so some of the things that came up kinda took the wind out of me. But I love working with Andrea because she’s so kind, fun and friendly. There’s no judgment or negativity from her and you know that she’s got your back, every step of the way.

This exercise consisted of me writing 5 things for each of these categories:

  1. I am… (positive statements)
  2. I am… (negative statements)
  3. I am the kind of person who… (positive statements)
  4. I am the kind of person who… (negative statements)

We went through all of my statements and discussed where they might have come from and the impact they have or have had on my life. We also looked at the positive and negative consequences of thinking each of those statements to be true. And it’s VERY surprising to find that actually, you can take positives from your negative statements and turn it around.

This sort of work can be INCREDIBLY eye-opening. Even if you’re familiar with limiting beliefs and have worked through them before. I know that “I’m not good enough” is one of my limiting beliefs that’s been present for a very long time. I always *think* that I’m past believing that about myself but it still crops up and it’s important to know why.

Jealousy and comparison also come into my limiting beliefs a lot, which has no doubt been made harder with social media. If you’ve never delve into any limiting belief work before, I highly suggest that you do. You might think it sounds a little woo-woo but it’s actually a very sensible and productive thing to do, especially if you feel stuck in life.

What is SRT?

We then went into the SRT part of the session. But what is SRT? SRT – Subconscious release technique can be used alone or in conjunction with the Emotional Freedom Technique to release emotional programs we’ve picked up in the first 18 years of our lives.

When a negative situation arises (hurtful, shameful, embarrassing, etc) – the thoughts we create about ourselves in that moment tend to show up again and again whether it has to do with fear (I’m going to mess it up), guilt (I don’t deserve good things), etc etc.

SRT works to clear things using breath work while releasing negative trapped emotions about the situation like anger, anxiety, stress, mistrust, while also clearing positive blocks to allowing good things like gratitude, certainty, happiness, etc.

The SRT portion of this session was interesting. Unlike EFT, you (the client) don’t have to say anything out load, you just have to repeat what Andrea is saying to you in your head, whilst using the activation points of EFT and a specific breathing pattern to help clear them out. Somehow from doing this, Andrea can feel what you’re releasing easier and what negative thoughts you’re hanging on to and can repeat certain phrases, depending on what you need.

It’s a very cool and clever technique – I really enjoyed it. I did find I was a LITTLE light headed afterwards because there’s a lot of breath work involved that can feel quite intense over a long period of time. It was a great experienced and something I would definitely consider doing again. Paired with EFT, this makes for an incredibly powerful tool for banishing those limiting beliefs.

  9. I’ve heard such great things about Andrea! I definitely think I fall into this section. In fact, I know I do. The doubts I have in myself, particularly to do with my career can be so exhausting. I do think I’m getting better though, especially since going freelance. The five things excercise definitely gave me something to think about. Thanks so much for sharing. Amazing post as always!
